About me & my blog

Hi, I'm Jacqui

I'm a passionate home cook who lives in Co Cork, Ireland.  I believe in supporting local food businesses, I try to shop in local greengrocers, butchers, fishmongers etc when at all possible.  I love to grow as much veg & salad as my small kitchen garden allows and my new passion, a smart garden which allows me to grow salad, herbs etc all year round.
On this blog, I will share recipes from some of my favourite cookery writers,

I love cooking and reading recipe books, I have a collection of hundreds of cookbooks,

I read them like most people read novels and I will share on here some of my favourite recipes from these books, sometimes with adaptations, sometimes just as they were written and will always let you know the name of the author and the cookbook.

I hope to give you plenty of recipe ideas for you to enjoy, whether you are feeding your family on a daily basis or looking for recipes to entertain your friends.

One of the greatest joys is cooking and sharing food with family and friends.

When I first moved here from the UK, I didn't know where to find ingredients that weren't readily available in supermarkets, now I rarely go into a supermarket and shop in the many wonderful small shops and the famous English Market in Cork City.

When I share a recipe, I will let you know where in Cork you can source ingredients and recommend local businesses that I use, if any of these retailers have online shops I will share those details for anyone not in Cork.

I am an Aga user and will also state which oven to use on an Aga when giving cooking temperatures.

I was formerly the owner of Carrigcleena Farm Poultry, producing outdoor reared slow grown ducks and chickens, unfortunately I ceased trading due to the pandemic.  I know personally how hard it can be to run a small artisan business producing high quality produce and firmly believe we should all try to support such businesses as much as we can.  The more we support local businesses and food producers, the more we are reducing food miles and ultimately helping to reduce our carbon footprint.
