Smart Gardens

The answer to growing your own herbs, salads and soft fruits indoors all year round

With Winter fast approaching the joy of growing your own salad leaves, soft herbs and fruiting plants such as wild strawberries, mini tomatoes, pepper, chillies and peas outside in your garden is disappearing.

With a Click & Grow smart garden you can grow these all year round indoors, organically without using any artificial pesticides or fertilisers etc.

One month ago I restarted one of my Click & Grow Smart Garden 9's and I am now enjoying what has grown.

Newly planted seed pods 1 month ago One month later, fully grown pak choi, romaine lettuce & basil Freshly picked tomatoes

With a Click & Grow smart garden all you need to do is plug it in, fill with water, add your chosen pods and wait for it to grow, the smart garden does everything else for you, the lights are on a timer, automatically coming on in the morning and going off at night to create the perfect growing conditions.

The water needs topping up when the float drops down but the garden will last for 2 weeks without being touched allowing you to go away for a break without having to worry about your garden.

The benefits of growing your own produce are endless, obviously the health benefits is one of the main ones, knowing exactly where your produce is coming from, being picked fresh daily, knowing pesticides etc haven't been used and the fresher your produce the more goodness, vitamins and of course flavour it contains.

Plants are known to help with anxiety and help to reduce stress, the joy of watching your veg etc grow is huge. If you have children, they will love to run in every day to see how much the plants have grown and will generally eat things that they have grown themselves. It can help to educate them on how plants grow, teaching them the importance of light etc to growth, you can use it as an educational tool, explaining how plants grow, this is particularly important for children who live in large cities as they often don't get to see these things happen in nature. Use tomatoes & herbs on top of pizzas etc, they will be delighted to eat what they have watched grow.

Having fresh herbs to add to your cooking all year round is great, growing them in your own smart garden helps to reduce food waste. How many times have you needed a sprig or 2 of parsley or coriander, or a few basil leaves to go on a tomato salad and have had to buy a whole packet in the supermarket the remainder sitting in the salad drawer of your fridge until it turns to a bag of mush that ends up in the bin? With a Click & Grow Smart Garden you can grow dozens of herbs, choosing whatever you use and just pick them as you need them 365 days a year.

I love a gin & tonic with a few fresh berries and a basil leaf, growing wild strawberries is great as you can add a couple to your drink freshly grown, they are so sweet. Wild strawberries as well as various other plants can be planted out after they have finished growing and producing and will come back in the garden every year.

Lots of Click & Grow plants will benefit hugely from being planted on into bigger pots and it will increase their lifespan and the amount they produce.

Click & Grow pods themselves are quite small, they grow the produce perfectly but eventually the plants become pot bound.

There is a Click & Grow app that can be downloaded onto a smart phone, when you put a pod into the garden, you add it into the garden on the app, the app will individually name each plant and will then give you updates about the plants progress, telling you what it should be doing at each stage, when to harvest it etc and when it tells you it is nearing the end of it's life in the smart garden it is time to plant it on. It will also tell you that plants such as green sorrel can be planted into the garden and will come back again each year. I find that lettuce don't really benefit from being planted up, as they come once and when you have cut them, that is it, however most other plants that I have grown so far do benefit from this.

I would highly recommend a Click & Grow Smart Garden to anyone who enjoys fresh produce in their cooking. You don't need to be green fingered, just purchase your pods online, pop them in your garden and wait for them to grow. Click & Grow produce various sizes of Smart Gardens, starting with the Click & Grow 3, then the 9 and the 27. They have also just released a 25, this garden is a whole new concept, it has been described as a Farmer's Market in your own home, it has been optimised for growing leafy greens, a whole strip of 5 plants of produce is ready every week, on a 5 week cycle from start to finish.
